I’ve been in the U.S. for several years now, and except for cities such as New York, DC, San Francisco and some others, you are always dependent on a car. This is especially annoying when you are going out and parking spaces are limited. Being from the Netherlands, I’m used to riding a bicycle to bars and clubs, but now I have to worry about drinking and driving and parking. The good news: we finally figured out how to avoid getting a parking ticket….
Recently, my friends and I drove to midtown Atlanta to go bar and club hopping. We were late as usual and of course all street parking was gone. Well, not all. We saw a great spot in front of one of the bars, and we were all excited since it seemed too good to be true, but we parked the car anyway. When we got out and made sure that it was indeed was a real spot, we realized that, although there were other cars, we just parked in a taxi stand. Closer inspection of the other cars showed that several cars had gotten a ticket.
Hmmm, what to do? Lazy and smart as we are, we had an idea. Why don’t we take a ticket from one of the other cars and put that on our windshield. Then, when the cops come back they will think we already got a ticket. HOW BRILLIANT!
Sure enough, when we got back, the other cars that hadn’t gotten a ticket yet, got one, and the car we took the ticket from got another one as well. And us? Nothing, nada, zero. Parking problem solved!
P.S. if it was your ticket that we took….. too bad for you….. now you know what to do next time….
